From Site Survey
To Perfect Display.
A professional SMD screen installation is more than mounting cabinets on a wall. Structure, power, signal, alignment, calibration and final handover all need to work together.
Great Hardware Needs
Great Installation.
LED and SMD displays are precision systems made from multiple cabinets, modules, power supplies, receiving cards and signal connections. A poor installation can affect alignment, reliability, image uniformity and long-term serviceability.
Professional installation starts before the screen arrives. The site needs to be checked for structure, viewing conditions, power, data connectivity, access and ventilation where required.
Eight Steps To A
Professional Installation.
Every project is different, but a professional installation follows a structured workflow from initial survey through training and final sign-off.
Site Survey
Before hardware is ordered, the installation location should be physically assessed and documented.
- Screen dimensions & viewing distance
- Wall / structure condition
- Ambient light & environment
- Power availability
- Access and maintenance space
Engineering & Planning
Installation requirements are translated into a practical mounting, power and signal plan.
- Mounting structure design
- Power distribution planning
- Signal / source routing
- Controller location
- Service access planning
Site Preparation
The installation area is prepared before the LED cabinets are mounted.
- Mounting points prepared
- Electrical circuits checked
- Data / AV routes prepared
- Access area cleared
- Protection for surrounding finishes
Structure & Cabinet Mounting
The mounting frame is installed, levelled and secured before cabinets are positioned into the display grid.
- Frame alignment
- Structural fixing
- Cabinet placement
- Level and square verification
- Service access maintained
Power & Signal Wiring
Power and data connections are routed and tested according to the system configuration.
- Power cabling
- Signal chain
- Controller connections
- Receiving-card connections
- Grounding & protection checks
Power-On & Alignment
The complete display is powered on in a controlled sequence and cabinet alignment is checked across the wall.
- Controlled power-up
- Signal verification
- Cabinet seam inspection
- Level and alignment adjustment
- Full-wall test patterns
Calibration & Testing
Brightness, colour consistency, white balance and image behaviour are checked across the complete screen.
- Brightness uniformity
- White balance
- Gamma configuration
- Content playback
- Source switching tests
Training & Sign-Off
The operating team receives practical guidance before the project is formally handed over.
- System operation training
- Source switching
- Basic troubleshooting
- Documentation handover
- Final acceptance
What Should Be Checked
Before Installation?
A physical site survey helps identify structural, electrical, environmental and operational requirements before installation.
Structure
Check the wall or supporting structure, mounting surface, load capacity, flatness and reinforcement requirements.
Power
Confirm available electrical capacity, circuit routing, protection and the appropriate power-distribution arrangement.
Signal & Connectivity
Plan controller location, source connections, data routes, network requirements and cable access.
Viewing Distance
Record the closest and typical audience positions so the selected pixel pitch and screen size can be evaluated properly.
Environment
Indoor and outdoor conditions, ambient light, exposure, ventilation and surrounding conditions should be reviewed.
Access & Maintenance
Consider installation access, service clearance, lifting, future module replacement and maintenance routes.
Prepare These Three
Areas Before The Crew Arrives.
Good preparation helps reduce delays and keeps installation work organised.
01 / SITE
- Installation area accessible
- Wall / structure ready
- Mounting points confirmed
- Working area cleared
- Required access equipment arranged
02 / ELECTRICAL
- Power capacity checked
- Dedicated circuit planned where required
- Distribution location confirmed
- Protection devices checked
- Grounding requirements addressed
03 / AV & DATA
- Controller location confirmed
- Source devices identified
- Signal routes prepared
- Network requirements checked
- Content workflow discussed
Installation Is Not Finished
Until The Display Is Calibrated.
Once the cabinets are mounted and connected, the display needs to be tested as one complete visual system. Calibration helps create consistent brightness, colour and image performance across the full display.
Final commissioning should also include content playback, source switching and operational testing before handover.
Final Commissioning Checks
What Should You Receive
At Project Completion?
System Training
Basic operation, source switching and everyday controls.
Documentation
Relevant system, connection and operating information.
Testing
Final display, signal and content verification.
Sign-Off
Formal confirmation that the agreed installation is complete.
Common Installation
Mistakes To Avoid.
Most installation problems can be reduced through proper planning before the first cabinet reaches the wall.
Skipping The Site Survey
Installing without checking structure, power, access and viewing conditions can create expensive changes later.
Weak Mounting Structure
The mounting structure should be designed for the actual wall and screen configuration, not assumed from appearance.
Poor Cable Planning
Power and signal routes should be planned before cabinets are installed to keep the system clean and serviceable.
Ignoring Service Access
A display may work perfectly on day one but become difficult to maintain if access for future servicing is ignored.
Skipping Calibration
Cabinet installation alone does not guarantee consistent brightness, colour or visual uniformity.
No Final Handover
The operating team should understand the system and the installation should be tested before final acceptance.

Installation
Questions Answered.
Installation time depends on screen size, mounting method, site conditions, access and whether structural or electrical preparation is required. Smaller indoor installations can be completed much faster than large outdoor structures. A project-specific schedule should be confirmed after the site assessment.
A physical site survey is strongly recommended for permanent installations. It helps verify structure, power, viewing conditions, access, signal routing and service requirements before installation begins.
Potentially, yes. The existing wall or supporting structure needs to be checked for suitability and load requirements. Some walls may require reinforcement or a dedicated steel mounting structure.
Calibration and commissioning should be treated as part of a professional installation scope. The display is checked for alignment, brightness, colour consistency, signal and content performance before handover.
Yes, with proper coordination. Installation can be scheduled around operating hours where appropriate, with access, safety, dust control and working-area requirements planned with the site's facilities team.
Start with the screen width and height, indoor or outdoor location, viewing distance, application, installation surface, city and available site photos. This gives the installation team a useful starting point for planning.
Installation note: Final structural, electrical, mounting and safety requirements depend on the actual project site, display specification and applicable local requirements. The information on this page is intended as general planning guidance and should not replace a project-specific site assessment or qualified engineering review.
